DSL Settings for OS X

10.3 Panther

10.4 Tiger

Opening the Network Preferences:

To access the Network settings, click Apple, then Location, then Network Preferences.

The following Network Status screen is the first to appear in the Network Preferences.

Step 1:  Show menu:

The Show menu lists Connection types (Modem, Ethernet, AirPort) for this Location/Connection.

The "Tabs" below the Show menu change depending on the connection type.

Click the up-down arrow to the right of the Show menu.

Then select Built-in Ethernet.

Step 2:  Edit the Location/Connection:

This is the third step in verifying the settings for your connection.

TCP/IP tab:

Select the TCP/IP tab.

Configure  =  If it's not selected, select Using DHCP from the drop-down menu.
DNS Servers =  Should be left blank
Search Domains  =  Should be left blank.

Note: To manually set the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Router, Click the up-down arrow to the right of the Configure IPv4 menu and select Manually instead of "Using DHCP".  The three fields will then allow you to enter the information.

PPPoE tab:

The PPPoE tab should be blank, as shown below.

AppleTalk tab:

The AppleTalk tab should also be left blank, as shown below.

Note:  If you have an Administrative account on your computer, you can lock these numbers in.  Any other account would not be able to change these settings.  This ensures safe surfing for all.

After configuring these three tabs, click Apply Now in the bottom right corner of the screen.  Close the screens.
